Living in the City
Many young people these days are trying to figure out where to live.
Many young people these days are trying to figure out where to live. More and more are moving to cities and living downtown. This is more than just a millennial trend, though. Quality of life is higher in cities, as is cultural experience and personal health. Add that to the lowered overall cost of living in the city, and it is no wonder young people are drawn to the hustle and bustle of city life.
Accessibility
Everything is closer together in a city. This is great for a flourishing social life, better job opportunities, and stronger community.
Ease of Transportation
In many cities, public transportation can get you almost anywhere that you can’t walk. Even when you need a car to get somewhere, all kinds of affordable transportation services like Uber and Lyft are popping up to get you where you need to go. Cost of parking and gas is often higher in cities, but with reliable and affordable transportation, traveling in the city is easy, convenient, and inexpensive.
Things to Do!
Cities always have something happening, whether it’s a cultural festival, music and theatre shows, or sporting events. With everything so close together, there are so many more options for food and drink, shopping, and activities than in rural areas. Each city has its own unique events and opportunities, but everyone has many opportunities for entertainment and attractions. You never have to worry about trying to find something to do again!
Connections
Cities are packed with people, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It’s easier to find people that are interested in the same things you are when living in a city. Living in an urban setting allows you to expand personal relationships and gain professional contacts more easily. There is lots of diversity of every kind in the city, giving everyone the opportunity to learn new things and find friends.
City Life is Healthier
Researchers have found that living in the city is actually healthier, and quality of life for city dwellers is better all around. People who live in cities tend to be less obese and more likely to live longer than those in rural areas or small towns. When health problems do arise, there are many options for medical and health care in closer proximity.
Exercise
City dwellers are more likely to walk more without even realizing it. There are bike races and marathons and other sporting events to take part in, and it’s easy to find exercise classes that are nearby and affordable. There are parks and outdoor markets, and many cities have great art or cultural walks. Mexico City in particular encourages its citizens to bike, closing major streets such as Reforma on Sundays to allow non-auto traffic and fight pollution.
A Better, Happier Life
Living in a city often gives citizens a greater sense of purpose and connection to the people around them. There are so many things to do in a city, and finding ways to fill free time is never difficult. Cities keep your body and mind active, contributing to a full life that you can share with friends and family for a greater sense of community and purpose.
Living in the middle of a city is a great place to build a great life, make good friends, and live happy and healthy.
